Meet the Artist

Tony Seker Headshot

Tony Seker

My artistic style, often called ‘action’ painting, is largely informed by my childhood refugee experience. As a youngster in a new country, I had no choice but to be resourceful. Instead of using a brush to paint I learned to use randomly available items instead, such as pieces of cardboard and plastic.

I lost myself in painting by channeling the movements and energy (action) of my favorite performers such as Peter Sellers, Bruce Lee, and Bictor Borge among others. As a result of these methods, my paintings have drawn similarities to works by abstract artists like Richter and Pollock.

I view the randomness in my paintings as an expression of how the contours of every life can be so pre-determined in many ways. In my case, my random birthplace led to me becoming a refugee, then an artist. I believe that by paying attention to this birth enigma that we can all find more compassion for those who are less fortunate by circumstance.
