The Pursuit of Black Schooling in New Jersey
February is Black History Month, and we're taking this month as an opportunity to highlight African American narratives in and around Wayne Township. And what better way to do that then to share Anika Sekar's paper, 'The Pursuit of Black Schooling in New Jersey: Integration vs. Separation'.
Anika started volunteering with the Wayne Museum as a rising junior, and you may recognize her name from several articles she's written for our blog and TAPinto series. She wrote this paper as a submission for the National History Day competition in 2023. You can read the full article, which discusses the history of educational opportunities for African Americans- highlighting Paterson and Wayne- by clicking below!
Anika has done amazing research here at the Wayne Museum, and we wish her all the best as she graduates this May!
