Lecture: The Battle of Golden Hill, 1770

July 4 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
Golden Hill lecture info graphic

The Battle of Golden Hill was one of the more obscure conflicts during the Revolutionary Period. This skirmish in the center of New York City in January 1770 was born out of the frustration of not only the Sons of Liberty in New York, but of a larger group of citizens who were weary of years of military overreach.

The men who fought on the inhabitants’ side participated in one of the first successful coordinated acts of resistance by the colonial population against the British military system. Join Program Specialist Vivian Davis as she explores colonial frustrations, the British response, and how this early confrontation foreshadowed the outbreak of war in the colonies.

This program is free to the public.
