The Paterson Museum is devoted to the preservation and display of the city’s cultural, technological, and geological history.

Visitors enjoy the interpretation of Paterson’s unique scientific, industrial, archaeological, historic, and cultural legacy. Museum patrons favor specifically learning about the “Silk City” and its evolution as a point of interest for machinery, textiles, locomotive and submarine manufacturing, and more general innovation.

Founded in 1925, the museum is located in the former Erecting Shop of the Rogers Locomotive Works in heart of the Paterson Great Falls National Historic Park. Its permanent exhibits highlight the Lenape people, textile machinery, Colt firearms, Curtis-Wright aircraft engines, early fire engines, the first successful submarines designed by John P. Holland, and a photograph collection of 200,000 negatives and prints.
