Lecture: Theunis Dey’s Bergen County Militia
July 19 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

While Bergen County contributed few soldiers to Washington’s Continental Army, hundreds served various short-term tours of duty in the militia or state troops (militia serving beyond one month). Under the command of Colonel Theunis Dey, the militia were responsible for guarding neighborhoods, routes, and passes from the enemy.
Join Historian Todd Braisted as he explores these men and learn and their service to the county, often against friends, neighbors and even relations serving with the British, over the course of the war.
This program is free to the public.
