John U. Rees joins us for our first lecture of the year, speaking on African Americans in the Continental Army.
Rees will dive into the roles of African Americans in the regiments of the Continental Army, their motivation for fighting, and their experiences during and after the American Revolution. Rees is the author of They Were Good Soldiers: African Americans Serving in the Continental Army, 1775-1783.
Afterwards, engage in a roundtable discussion with the Department of Cultural & Historic Affairs on its plans for 2026.
