Join us and author Dr. Lucia McMahon, for the first book talk of The Celebrated Elizabeth Smith: Crafting Genius and Transatlantic Fame in the Romantic Era. Elizabeth Smith, a learned British woman born in the momentous year 1776, gained transnational fame posthumously for her extensive intellectual accomplishments. Through re-telling Smith’s fascinating life story, the book reveals a larger narrative about women’s efforts to enact fulfilling lives, and the cultural reactions such aspirations inspired in the early nineteenth century.
