DESCRIPTION:January 2026 marked the 100th anniversary of the Passaic Textile Strike\, when some 15\,000 wool workers (largely immigrants and women) fought for better conditions\, higher wages\, and a union for more than a year. Although the strike was ultimately defeated\, it highlighted that for many workers\, the “roaring twenties” were based on worsening conditions and increased exploitation. \nProfessor Jacob will discuss the causes of the strike\, how it developed\, and what lessons the strike has for us today. \nThis program is free. \nClick Here to Sign Up\n

SUMMARY:The Iron Hand in the Silk Glove: Allied Textile Printing Site Lecture
DESCRIPTION:The ATP site rests derelict since its final closure in 1986 after over 190 years of continuous operation. The astonishing variety of Paterson’s industries of cotton and silk weaving\, iron foundries\, military firearms\, textile dyeing and finishing all began here in 1792. Through large format\, hand-printed\, silver photographs\, this exhibition tells the story of these “factories below the falls” – in context of the ATP landscape of 2006. \nA lecture about the ATP site\, Paterson’s industrial past and gallery talk by the photographer is being offered at 1:00 p.m. on April 11th and September 12th at the Lambert Castle Carriage House. \nClick Here to Register

DESCRIPTION:Unveiling Paterson’s Underground Railroad Historic Marker Trail \nDid you know that Paterson was a documented “station” on the Underground Railroad? Local abolitionists took extraordinary risks to help freedom seekers on their journey north to Canada. \nOne key figure was Josiah P. Huntoon\, whose home at Broadway and Bridge Street—known as “Huntoon’s Corner”—served as a vital link in the Underground Railroad. He worked alongside an interracial network of activists\, including Black engineer William Van Rensalier and local leaders John and Harriet Kline and Henry and Mary Low. \nJoin us for a special lecture presented by historians Jimmy Richardson and Flavia Alaya\, along with Gianfranco Archimede\, Executive Director of the Paterson Historic Preservation Commission—followed by the official unveiling of Paterson’s new Historic Marker Trail commemorating the city’s role in the Underground Railroad. \nThis lecture is free to the public.
