SUMMARY:Lecture: Washington’s Army at Valley Forge
DESCRIPTION:Why did George Washington choose Valley Forge as the Continental Army’s winter encampment in 1777–1778? And how did that decision shape the outcome of the American Revolution? \nJoin historian and Valley Forge guide Kenneth Gavin for an engaging lecture that goes beyond the familiar story of the army’s winter hardships. Drawing upon primary source documents\, Gavin examines the strategic\, political\, social\, and economic considerations that made Valley Forge the practical choice for the Continental Army’s main encampment during the winter of 1777–1778. \nBy looking beyond the traditional narrative of suffering and endurance\, this lecture offers a deeper understanding of why Valley Forge became one of the most consequential locations of the Revolutionary War. \nThis event is free to the public. Registration encouraged. \nClick here to register for this event.

SUMMARY:Hammered History: Punched-Tin Keepsakes
DESCRIPTION:Discover the art of punched-tin decoration at the Dey Mansion. During the 18th and 19th centuries\, pierced metalwork brought both beauty and function to household objects such as lanterns\, candle shades\, pie safes\, and food-storage cabinets. The small openings created decorative patterns while allowing light or air to pass through. \nVisitors can stop by throughout the day to make a punched-tin ornament inspired by traditional geometric\, floral\, and star designs. Using a prepared metal blank\, pattern\, and simple hand tools\, participants will carefully punch their chosen design into the surface. Each finished piece can be tied with ribbon or twine and taken home as a keepsake. This ongoing activity is suitable for families\, although children will require adult assistance.

SUMMARY:Reception: Portraits of Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a special reception on Saturday\, September 19th from 1pm-4pm. Questions and Answers with the artist\, Gabo Padilla\, and special guests at 2:30pm. \nPortraits of Resilience\, is an exhibition that combines intimate portraits with social commentary on the struggles of homeless individuals. SUMMARY:Summer Art Camp 2026 at Clifton Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:Unleash your child’s creativity this summer at Summer Art Camp 2026 at Clifton Arts Center—where young artists are not just taught\, but truly mentored. \nDesigned for children ages 7–12\, this inspiring and hands-on program pairs students with professional artists and experienced art educators who are passionate about nurturing the next generation of creatives. At Clifton Arts Center\, we believe mentorship is the heart of artistic growth. Our instructors work closely with each child\, recognizing their unique gifts and guiding them to build confidence\, refine their skills\, and discover their own creative voice. \nIn a relaxed and supportive studio environment\, campers will explore a wide range of artistic techniques including painting\, drawing\, collage\, and sculpture. Through engaging lessons and personalized instruction\, students will create multiple 2D and 3D works of art while developing foundational skills in design\, composition\, and visual storytelling. Each participant will also cultivate their own sketchbook—a creative journal that captures their ideas\, progress\, and artistic journey throughout the program. \nAs a special highlight\, campers will enjoy a private tour of the Clifton Arts Center Art Gallery and outdoor Sculpture Park\, complete with an interactive scavenger hunt designed to spark observation\, curiosity\, and critical thinking. \nAll art materials are provided. Students should bring a nut-free snack\, beverage\, and sunscreen each day. Registration fee for residents is $200 and for non-residents is $225. \nThe program concludes with a celebratory art reception where campers proudly showcase their work for family and friends—an empowering moment that honors both their creativity and growth. \nSummer Art Camp 2026 is taught and led by Beth Kearney\, a multidisciplinary artist\, curator\, and dedicated arts educator. A Clifton resident for 25 years\, Beth is a staff member at Clifton Arts Center and holds a B.A. in Film Photography from Hampshire College and an M.A. in Humanities and Arts Education from NYU. Her work has been exhibited at respected institutions including the Morris Museum and the Montclair Art Museum\, along with other regional galleries and venues. \nGive your child more than just an art camp—give them mentorship\, inspiration\, and the confidence to grow as an artist.
