SUMMARY:Lecture: The Battle of Golden Hill\, 1770
DESCRIPTION:The Battle of Golden Hill was one of the more obscure conflicts during the Revolutionary Period. This skirmish in the center of New York City in January 1770 was born out of the frustration of not only the Sons of Liberty in New York\, but of a larger group of citizens who were weary of years of military overreach. \nThe men who fought on the inhabitants’ side participated in one of the first successful coordinated acts of resistance by the colonial population against the British military system. Join Program Specialist Vivian Davis as she explores colonial frustrations\, the British response\, and how this early confrontation foreshadowed the outbreak of war in the colonies. \nThis program is free to the public. \nClick here to reserve your seat!

SUMMARY:Lecture: ‘Havens for Deviates’ - The Regulation of Queer Bars in Mid-Century Paterson
DESCRIPTION:Between the 1930s and the 1960s\, the New Jersey Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) suspended the liquor licenses of any bar or tavern in the state that was found to serve patrons belonging to the LGBTQ community. In the city of Paterson\, a total of 12 establishments were targeted by the ABC under this justification. \nMuseum Attendant Angelo Schimmenti will tell the stories of several of these bars and taverns\, providing insight into the state-sponsored repression of public expression of queer identity and offering a glimpse into the queer community of mid-century Paterson. \nThis program is free to the public. \nReserve your seat here!

SUMMARY:PCAC Artist Talk Series: Christine Conforti
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to welcome author\, artist\, and community advocate Christine Conforti\, who will share insights from her creative journey and artistic accomplishments. Conforti believes that art serves a purpose beyond technique or recognition — offering insight\, inviting reflection\, and influencing those who encounter it. Her work explores themes of love\, compassion\, and the shared human experience\, expressed through moments that may be both comic and tragic. \nDuring this two-hour seminar\, Conforti will present a selection of recent paintings created in traditional and naïf styles\, demonstrating how artistic ideas emerge through attentive observation of everyday life. She will read her short story and reflect on its connection to the history of Paterson and Passaic County\, illustrating how artists often draw inspiration from the character of the communities in which they live. \nClick Here to Register

SUMMARY:Unveiling Paterson’s Underground Railroad Historic Marker Trail
DESCRIPTION:Unveiling Paterson’s Underground Railroad Historic Marker Trail \nDid you know that Paterson was a documented “station” on the Underground Railroad? Local abolitionists took extraordinary risks to help freedom seekers on their journey north to Canada. \nOne key figure was Josiah P. Huntoon\, whose home at Broadway and Bridge Street—known as “Huntoon’s Corner”—served as a vital link in the Underground Railroad. He worked alongside an interracial network of activists\, including Black engineer William Van Rensalier and local leaders John and Harriet Kline and Henry and Mary Low. \nJoin us for a special lecture presented by historians Jimmy Richardson and Flavia Alaya\, along with Gianfranco Archimede\, Executive Director of the Paterson Historic Preservation Commission—followed by the official unveiling of Paterson’s new Historic Marker Trail commemorating the city’s role in the Underground Railroad. \nThis lecture is free to the public. Call 973-706-6640 to reserve your spot!
